Ice Break is a short story from your anthology " The Journey Prize Stories 24” written by Astrid Blodgett in 2012. We all don't know where the story occurs, but we realize it is some place cold, because there is ice for the lake, and snow within the roads. It could possibly very possibly be Canada since Blodgett can be Canadian. It takes place in modern days, and we know this because there are modern day such things as televisions and cars.

The story is all about a family of 5. Mommy, dad, and three children. They apparently have a good relationship total, but we have a sense that something is strange about their romantic relationship. First of all, they have family conferences, where they may have discussions with what parent is going to be with what kid. Dawn, the narrator, says that these relatives meetings never truly work, since the kids can never decide what, or with whom they need to be around. Another thing that suggestions to the reader that this family has some problems is what Marla says before they go to the pond. She suggestions to her siblings that her parents had been going to end up like their outdated neighbors Mr. and Mrs. Pichowsky. The Pichowskys divorced a year ahead of, and the mom moved a long way away from the dad, and took the children with her. Marla is the most ancient sister. We know this because she has work as a barnepige, wears a whole lot of cosmetic, and start describes that, as they consume Saturday morning hours brunch, they sit within a row, tallest to shortest. Oldest to youngest, here Marla is definitely mentioned first. Therefore the girl must be most well-known, since we realize for a fact that Janie is a youngest. Janie is eight years old, and she does not want to go around the ice doing some fishing trip to start with, but Dawn bribes her with five dollars. Janie is not a smart because her sisters, probably since she is younger. Dawn is aware of she can easily convince Janie to go if perhaps she simply bribes her, since five dollars will be a lot if you are seven years old. Janie also doesn't understand the moment Marla jokes...
